What is Crazy Pineapple?

Crazy Pineapple deals three private cards instead of Hold'em's two. You keep all three through preflop and flop betting, then each active player privately discards one card and continues with two.

From the turn onward it plays exactly like No-Limit Hold'em, with the best five-card hand from any combination of hole and board cards.

No-Limit, 2-7 players; the most popular bridge from Hold'em into Dealer's Choice games.

Starting cards

3 private cards. No-Limit betting.

How to play

  1. Preflop betting, then deal the flop.
  2. Flop betting while players still hold 3 cards.
  3. Each active player privately discards ONE card and continues with 2. Discarded cards are permanently dead.
  4. Deal the turn, then turn betting.
  5. Deal the river, then river betting and showdown.

Showdown

Make the best five-card hand using 0, 1, or 2 hole cards and the community board.

Common mistakes

  • Discarding before the flop: in Crazy Pineapple the discard happens after flop betting, not before the flop.
  • Expecting to see opponents' discards: discarded cards are permanently dead and remain private.
  • Forgetting that only two cards remain for the turn, river and showdown.
